The Little Festival That Grew. That's what organizers called the 4th Annual Beaches Jazz Festival at Kew Gardens! What started as a two-day affair, was now turning into one of Canada's premier outdoors jazz events. Over 100,000 people were expected to attend the festivities - that's almost double the attendance of the previous year's event. As a special bonus this particular year, Beaches residents received a sampling of upcoming musical acts during the week prior to the festival. Between July 22nd & 24th. Many local jazz acts performed in and around the Beaches area, on the street corners giving every one a taste of entertainment that was in store for the weekend. Posters and T-shirts were now on sale during the festival, with the proceeds going to the Senior Links charity. This non-profit organization is designed to improve the quality of the lives of seniors in the Beaches area. So far, over the three years that the festival had been in operation, over $40,000 had been raised. In 1992, the Beaches Jazz Festival quickly established itself as one of the premier cultural events in Metro Toronto. |
