This fun and interactive workshop led by Steve Mancuso focuses on the wonderful music of Brazil. Rhythms played in the music of Capoeira, Samba, Partido Alto, and Maculele will be explored. Participants will have an opportunity to play various Afro-Brazilian percussion such as: Surdos, Pandeiros, tamborims, agogos, and ganzas, to name a few. Come and join us as we sing, drum, and move to the music and rhythms of Brazil! All ages and levels are welcome!
About Steve Mancuso:
Toronto born drummer, multi-instrumentalist, and vocalist Steve Mancuso has been active as an educator, and performing artist on the Canadian music scene since 1990. Steve is presently a member of DRUMHAND, which is a collective of Canadian artists who share a passion for the music and song of Africa, India, and the Americas. In 2008, Steve earned his MA in ethnomusicology at York University, and currently completing a PhD under the guidance of South Indian master drummer Trichy Sankaran.
Steve is on faculty at internationally recognized Humber College School of Performing Arts, where he instructs private lessons and various ensembles. He is also on faculty as a drumming instructor at the acclaimed Humber Community Music School. He is endorsed as an independent artist by Bosphorus Cymbals, Vic Firth Sticks and Mallets, and Remo Drumheads.
